Our actions
Before you see our actions, we would like to explain why our actions are necessary.
The problem
Often, the profile of the disabled person is formed on the basis of medical terms, stereotypes and generalisations, creating a large gap between the individual and society. We perceive disability as a result of obstacles that society puts on a person and not as an inherent weakness of the person herself.
People with disabilities lack support and face barriers to participating in society. Until today, the exact number of people with or without disabilities living in institutional care in Greece is not estimated.
Children, youngsters and young adults living in institutional care have been either abandoned or removed from their families. They face daily violations of their human rights. The lack of stimulation and education that comes with living in closed institutional structures (commonly mistakenly referred to as orphanages) as well as the lack of security, protection and love that a family would provide has a severe impact on the mental and emotional wellbeing of the children and youngsters that we work with.
Activities with the children and youngsters
Our actions provide and offer attention, love and stimulation to the children, youngsters and young adults on a daily basis. We organize daily activities such as outings outside of the institution, cooking classes, english lessons, sports, handcrafts, massages, celebrations or learning how to handle money. Providing a group of 20 children with additional educational support in individual lessons with a special educator. Organizing trainings for volunteers about different topics to improve their knowledge and skills. Promoting and supporting the european strategy of deinstitutionalization (the transition from institutional care to community-based living).
Events and other actions
Besides our daily actions we also organize and participate in inclusive events with organizations from all around the world.
